Help us protect lions by adopting from just £3 per month.
The lion population has fallen by 43% in just 20 years. There could be fewer than 20,000 lions left in the wild, meaning they could be extinct by 2050.
Lions are one of the world’s most recognised animals, associated with awe, wonder, and majesty. As a keystone species, they play a vital role in maintaining a healthy balance in their delicate ecosystems. Yet, they are under threat more than ever before, from poaching, habitat loss, and conflict with humans. Currently, it is estimated there are 23,000 lions left in the wild – but it could be 10-15% lower than that, meaning their population has decreased by a shocking 43% in just two decades and making them vulnerable to extinction.
David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation is taking action to protect this iconic big cat from the multitude of threats pushing them to the brink of extinction. It is our mission to save this revered species and you can help us do it!
Just £3 per month (or £36 one-off) could enable wildlife ranger training and welfare programmes that support patrols protecting lions.
For only £5 per month (or £50 one-off) rangers could be provided with effective communications equipment to improve the efficiency of their patrols and response times to lion threats.
With £10 per month (or £60 one-off) undercover investigations into the illegal trade of big cat parts and consumption in Asia.
Lions populations are vulnerable according to IUCN, with West African populations listed as critically endangered.
David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) supports the protection of lion populations across Africa. We fund anti-poaching and anti-trafficking operations to ensure criminal groups are apprehended in Africa whilst also monitoring lion populations behaviours and pride patterns and their distribution.
Adopting a lion supports our projects and helps us work with local communities to monitor lion movements, fight against illegal hunting, and raise awareness on why lions are in danger of extinction. In addition, your support can help us:
Lions are already extinct in 26 countries across the continent, with some nations only harbouring a few hundred precious individuals, unfortunately living in high risk areas with fragmented populations.
Your adoption will help to protect Lions across Africa by supporting anti-poaching, habitat restoration and protection, as well as human-willdife mitigation and community education programmes to foster peaceful coexistence between humans and lions.
