Susan Pollard Gillespie
Susan was inspired by how vulnerable baby seals look especially when their mother is not close by. She finds their innocent faces and beautiful fur enchanting and a delightful challenge to capture in paint. The baby grey seal in her piece “Where’s Mum?” was born at Donna Nook in Lincolnshire where it’s easy to observe the seals without disturbing them.
Susan Pollard Gillespie has been drawing and painting since childhood. She received an honours degree in art and worked for twenty years as a graphic designer and illustrator before becoming a full-time painter. Susan works mostly in oil for its richness of colour and variation in texture. With considered observation she paints subjects she finds beautiful using drawing, light, colour and brushwork, painting from life whenever possible. Animals are amongst her favourite subjects.
