About the piece:
Describing her painting Sara says: “our rhinos are in extreme danger and even for those that survive, the trauma that they witness and bear within their souls is heavy. This African proverb that forms the title is a poignant reminder how little care the ‘axe’ and those that wield it have for these majestic creatures. My use of gold leaf was chosen to highlight the high value of the horn to those involved in rhino poaching but not least to the rhino itself, for who needs the horn more? The golden horn makes for a striking effect and one that I hope will highlight the plight of our rhinos and help in the battle to raise awareness and save these gentle giants from extinction.” Sara was born in England but now lives in South Africa with her family. Sara completed a degree in Illustration and successfully practiced art for a number of years in the UK before spending a year travelling through Africa and South America, finally settling in South Africa in 2001 where she ran a successful Graphic Design business for many years whilst raising her children. For the last few years Sara has been painting full time and has a number of exhibitions and commissions under her belt and collectors from around the world.
