Steve Nayar is keen to raise awareness of the plight of endangered animals, in this case the red squirrel. It is his hope that we can continue to create suitable spaces within the urban environment for red squirrels. Grey squirrels are a problem to their survival along with morbidity from traffic accidents and predation by cats, but Steve feels that if we can manage our urban environments sustainably, it may be possible to encourage a greater number of urban red squirrels.
Steve Nayer enjoys painting wildlife at this unenviable time in our history when we are losing species at an alarming rate. If just one of his works can raise awareness of their plight, or if through its sale he can raise some funds for conservation, then he believes it will have been worthwhile. In each painting, Steve seeks to reflect something of the creature’s inherent beauty. If his painting can create some emotional engagement with the audience, then as a wildlife artist, he feels he is achieving his goal.
