Valeriia describes the inspiration behind her piece, ‘On the North Side’: “In the work you can feel the ambiguity and complexity of the northern world. The unique patterns of the icy shore border on a frightening, deaf abyss. The feeling of cold loneliness meets the warm feeling of family togetherness, causing deep feelings in us”.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Valeriia Pichugina was born in the historical city of Taganrog in Southern Russia. From childhood, she felt connected to the natural world, and she tries to convey the depth of her feelings with the watercolours and graphic tools she uses. She also has a formal education as a Fine Arts teacher, and since 2018 she has been teaching watercolours online and drawing animals and plants with her students. Since 2019, she has been actively participating in exhibitions in Russia, the most significant of which was the exhibition “Marine” (Krasnodar,2021), which is dedicated to the ocean and its inhabitants.
