Koala

Koala
Annie Drew
ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:
Annie Drew’s oil painting “Koala” was inspired by the heartbreaking images of the wildfires that swept through Australia during 2019/2020. During this time thousands of animals were rescued and treated for burns, but sadly thousands could not be saved. The koala, usually seen as unassuming, cute and cuddly, overnight became an animal filled with grief, suffering and loss.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Annie Drew is drawn to capturing animals in a paused moment, when they’re very still and just about to leap into action. Drew explains how one can see all the tiny details, the tension in their muscles, the focus in their eyes and how it is a challenge to capture. The amount of detail that goes into each piece isn’t a conscious choice from Drew, attention to detail has always been in her nature.
