ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:

Johanna Excell is a Finnish artist living in Germany. In her painting “Better Days” Johanna wanted to portray the beauty of the sub-arctic winter, and highlight the plight of Saimaa Ringed Seals – one of the most endangered seal species in the world. Fishing nets and the lack of snow and ice caused by climate change have led to the collapse of the population. Hopefully the future will bring better, icy days to these beloved creatures of Finland.”

Johanna Excell is a Finnish biologist and self-taught artist based in Regensburg, Germany. Inspired by nature and wildlife, she uses acrylics, watercolours and dotwork to portray the diverse beauty of our biosphere, increase awareness of endangered species, and support conservation work.
