About the piece:
Adrianna Allen is a scientific illustrator who creates visuals aimed to inspire curiosity and promote science literacy. Through a combination of science and art she strives to inspire everyone’s interest in the investigation of the cosmos: from genetics to galaxies. This painting has been inspired by The Overview Effect, a phrase coined by astronauts meaning the feeling of awe for our home planet and a sense of responsibility for taking care of it. The depiction of a water snake conveys this, with Adrianna wanting the viewer to take inspiration from this animal by being as quiet as the stones they caress, leaving no trace of yourself.
