The wild barn owl’s silent beauty is breath-taking. Over five years, Marc acquired the skills to photograph inflight at displays and observed and gathered reference material for this composition. ‘Whisper’ is the name of a blind barn owl the artist met in captivity and he feels this the perfect title, and highlights their silent grace.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Marc Mitchard paints in acrylic on smooth wooden panels. His style is self-taught and his subjects are currently birds. Ideas start from wildlife and natural environments observed. Inspired by photography, Marc takes his own photographs and he loves creating soft, out of focus textures and edges in a painting, like a shallow depth of field in photography. He balances these elements with detailed focal points, and harder edges. His paintings take many hours to finish and undergo many checks before considered complete. Ultimately though, Marc feels they are ready when he simply doesn’t want to part with them, as for him, that’s the best test of all.
