The artist Lesley D McKenzie had a family of foxes living nearby and often saw the cubs playing in the long grass, enjoying watching them rolling around care free. ‘Practice Punch’ shows one of the youngsters learning to hunt. He is keen but very unsuccessful!
Raku fired ceramic
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Lesley has been working with clay for over 30 years, her lifelike animal sculptures are created with a wealth of experience in animal anatomy and capture the very essence and attitude of her subject. The raku firing gives a wonderful finish, with the glazes emanating natural colours and textures, giving her sculptures a lifelike realistic appearance. She initially trained as a graphic artist but her passion for nature and wildlife pushed her to follow her heart and she began working with various mediums, including woodcarving, bronze, metalworking and, of course, clay. In her early career Lesley took the prestigious “Editors Choice” at the National Woodworkers Exhibition in London with a depiction of a mother elephant and calf. Since then she has continued to win many awards and accolades with a recent appearance at the Mall Galleries in London and Two Art Gallery in Murcia Spain. Lesley’s work is collected internationally and hosted by many of Scotland’s leading galleries.
