As quoted by Roy: “Ever since I was a small child on my first trip when I was five years old nature has always been my first love. My father used to take my brother and myself on numerous trips to different game reserves in Southern Africa. One animal we always wanted to see in the wild was a pangolin. Many trips to the famous Kruger National Park (where my father is buried) the top of the list that we wanted to see was a pangolin, but it was not to be. To this day my family and I after spending countless hours both night and day driving around we still have never seen one. I have always been fascinated by pangolins and over the last few years watching films about what is happening and being done to them at times it brings tears to my eyes. Such a gentle, harmless creature being killed for their scales and meat, also the way the poachers treat them, is heart breaking. I have made three different pangolins to date all driven by my love for this remarkable creature. All the pangolins I sell part of the proceeds will go to the Johannesburg Veterinary Hospital who treat pangolins that have been rescued from poachers. The pangolins normally come in in shocking condition and to rehabilitate them back into the wild is a long and difficult process as as well as being very costly.”
