A hand-embroidered turtle dove stitched onto pages of an ornithological record book from the 70’s, when these beautiful birds were common. The message is simple, if action isn’t taken soon to protect these critically endangered birds and their environment, future generations may only see these birds in the pages of a reference book.
MEDIUM: Hand embroidery on vintage ornithological record book
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Angela Knapp is an artist known for her detailed hand stitched embroideries of once common but now endangered birds. After research the birds are created using fabric, paint, and many layers of thread. Once complete, they are then stitched onto vintage parchment or pages of books. Angela captures the essence and fragility of her subjects, using art in a unique and powerful way, inviting viewers into the narratives and fragility of these birds. Will these birds only be visible in a reference book in years to come and when will we have a contract with nature to ensure their survival?
