My Javan rhino and her baby are made using a slab build ceramic technique; imprinted with lace, textile and found objects. This produces tough ‘armour plating’ contrasting with delicate mark making reflecting their endangered status.

MEDIUM: Ceramic

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Alison Pink is a ceramic artist based in Marlow, whose work explores the anatomical intricacies of wildlife. Her hand-built pieces incorporate textured imprints that either compliment or often wildly contrast the essence of a creature. A former lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology, her work shows anatomical sensitivity and a deep understanding of structure. Alison was taught ceramics by James Ort, a prolific wildlife artist; her distinct style and expressiveness the result. Her pieces always invite closer examination as detail is her lure. An experienced tutor, she teaches from her home studio, at various venues and she leads residential workshops at the prestigious West Dean Colllege of Arts, Design, Craft and Conservation.
