I have watched and sketched orcas in seas around the world and, as apex predators of the oceans, they are environmental indicators. Research indicates the effects of overfishing, climate change, heavy metals, plastic and other pollution causing declines in orca pods and the wider changes to our ocean ecosystems.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Derek has been a full time professional artist for 35 years and is well known for his books, TV programmes and appearances in press and media. He exhibits internationally, his artwork is held in private and public collections in over 50 countries (including the Tate Gallery and the collection of the Royal Family) and he has won many awards for his paintings and books. His practice blends a deep love and understanding for his subject matter with an ambitious, project-led approach to research that often collaborates with scientists, conservationists and other creative practitioners.

All artworks will remain at the Mall Galleries, even if sold, until the exhibition concludes on 13 September 2025.
