A Dream of Flight

My painting depicts a leopard engulfed in wildfire, its spots transforming into birds. The leopard’s yearning for escape symbolises the universal desire to flee environmental catastrophes, yet even flight offers no refuge. This portrays the all-consuming nature of global warming and the imperative for immediate, collective action.

MEDIUM: Acrylic on canvas

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Selina Woodham is a Japanese-British wildlife artist based in Northern California. Raised in rural Japan, her deep love for animals was shaped by the richness of nature – and the lasting impact of witnessing its gradual loss. Known for her dramatic use of contrast and fine detail in acrylics, Selina’s work aims to give voice to the voiceless. After earning her doctorate in physical therapy in 2022, she returned to her first love – wildlife – continuing to care for people while shifting her focus toward protecting animals and their habitats through art.
