Description

About the piece:
John Frank Hoekzema is sculptor, working figuratively, be it human or animal, in baked clay, resin and bronze. His love for nature and especially the animal world makes the sculpting of animals one of his favourite aspects. During research, he is repeatedly met with the realisation that animals are not that different from humans, in terms of facial expressions and how characters and emotions are shown. This is especially evident in apes. John says ‘with this sculpture I tried to express the sad lost gaze of a lonely chimp, held in captivity. The goal was not to make a pleasant looking sculpture, but rather one where the viewer feels uncomfortable’

At least 50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
