Belgravia in Bloom – Sunlit Pigeon – Marie Antoniou

Sunlit Pigeon
43 x 43 cm
Acrylic on Canvas

“Here I am taking inspiration from urban city wildlife. The humble pigeon, nuisance to some and beautiful to others. Pigeons are such a big part of our environment, adorning buildings like living gargoyles. Half the time they go unnoticed when Sat high up on ledges and rooftops. My painting captures a typical pose of a resting pigeon basking in the sun.” – Marie Antoniou

Artist bio

Ever since leaving school,  Marie continued her art education through to university, where her love of animals and nature led her on to further study Scientific Illustration. Since graduating she became a self-employed artist teaching art privately as well working in adult education teaching drawing and painting. Other projects include delivering art related activities at corporate and community events. When she is not teaching, time is spent in her studio painting. Marie prefers to work in acrylic as it suits her approach to painting. Her paintings are an impressionistic interpretation conveying traditional subjects in a more contemporary style. For Marie this is explored through expressive brushstrokes and bold colour giving a slight abstract feel to the work.

‘Into the Wild’
Belgravia in Bloom 2023
In partnership with Catherine Best
22ND– 29TH May

Belgravia in Bloom is an annual floral art show, coinciding with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show each May. Local shops and brands are invited to showcase their creative skills, get into the seasonal spirit, and compete against one another for the best shopfront display – on Elizabeth Street – one of the prettiest streets in London. To celebrate this year’s theme of ‘Into the Wild’, David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) is delighted to be partnering with the internationally acclaimed luxury jewellery brand, Catherine Best, for this year’s event.

Hosted from Monday 22nd of May to Monday, 29th of May, at their new Elizabeth Street store, visitors can join in celebrating this annual event whilst browsing and purchasing our unique jewellery and wildlife artwork from DSWF’s talented artist community.

The Exhibition is a testament to the efforts of 10 incredible artists, each creating a piece in celebration of ‘Into the Wild’. Artwork from the exhibition is available for purchase with 50% going towards DSWF’s wildlife conservation work, alongside a portion from all sales of Catherine Best jewellery in-store during the week.
