In this artwork I used charcoal to replicate the darkness of the nights in the wilderness. The Jackal waits in the shadows, concealed within the grasses, watching and waiting. Only his eye piercing through the night. Calculating his next move. Ready to take his chance.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Sarah Holmes is a part-time artist with a passion for capturing the beauty and spirit of animals. Principally working in charcoal, she’s attracted to the mediums versatility, intensity, and ability to convey both stillness and movement. She uses deep blacks and soft gradients to depict animals in their natural habitats. With the aim of capturing fleeting moments and a particular interest in finding where light falls on form through the darkness. Based in Warwickshire, she balances a full-time career alongside artist development.
