Herald moths seek shelter in dark cool caves and cluster together to winter. This coppery formation mesmerizes, especially in a place so dim. Gradually their wings will fill with condensation droplets. This phenomenon may have inspired their scientific name: Scoliopteryx libatrix derived from libation, a liquid offering.
