As quoted by David: ‘I was up on the roof painting this and suddenly spotted a flash of blue from the sky reflected in a pool of water that had gathered in a dent in the bodywork. it formed the perfect counterbalance of colour against warm lights and darks in the rest of the painting – and one I’d never have thought of it I hadn’t seen it. When you’re working from life, you’re much more attuned to this sort of detail, which can literally make the painting’. David hung onto this canvas and did not part with it keeping it safe in the attic for many years. It is now, for the first time, up for sale.
