Tiger skin trader face 5 years in jail News July 23, 2012 Last week, police in Depok, Indonesia arrested a man who was in possession of 14 stuffed Sumatran tigers and two sacks full of tiger pelts and heads. The man, only identified as ‘Feri’ stated to the police that he had buyers lined up for the stuffed tigers and would get around £800-1300 for each one. Feri, although not a direct poacher, had access to hunters in the Sumatran jungles and to many other animal skin collectors. Even though Feri was found with numerous illegal animal parts, he only faces one count of possession under the 1990 Natural Resources Conservation Law. This means he will only get a maximum of 5 years in prison and a fine of £7,000. TigerTime is fighting to put an end to the illegal trade in tiger parts, please help us do this by signing our petition here. TigerTime, through the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation funds tiger protection programmes in India, Thailand and Russia. TigerTime also funds undercover investigations which are vital to stop the slaughter of wild tigers. Please help us continue this work and donate here.
