This artwork reflects a simple but profound truth that we are not so different from our primate relatives. Painted in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda, the central portrait was created in the presence of the gorilla, who quite literally sat and held Max’s gaze. While he painted, Max was struck by a deep sense of recognition; an awareness of how closely our lives mirror one another. Our futures are intertwined and we must endure and coexist together in this world, for neither can survive without the other.
Artist biography
Max is a pioneering artist and painter exploring the balance between serenity and chaos, offering a visceral experience of natureÃs emotional depth.
Working at the intersection between exploration and storytelling, Max has spent years documenting the Amazon Rainforest and painting the Korubo tribe. The jungle serves as both subject and metaphor, representing a world that is beautiful, dangerous, comforting, and unsettling, much like life itself.
As an accomplished painter, Max was Team GB’s Artist in Residence for the Tokyo Olympics and held his first sold out solo show at 21.
50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
