Artist biography Vanessa is a painter exploring confrontation, antagonism, and ritual, whose work reflects on the history of action painting and performance art. She plays with high-octane colour and is mordant in her conceptual approach.
Drawing inspiration from the abjectness surrounding ideas of feminism, Vanessa’s practice illustrates a sense of threat where beauty and innocence are on the edge of collapse. These pieces seek to destabilise the audience by questioning their surroundings, gender ambiguity, acceptable thoughts, behaviours, and history. Vanessa has been shortlisted for multiple art prizes and has exhibited extensively globally.
