The bronze Octopus is a limited edition cast bronze sculpture with an acid etched patina. Inspired by years of scuba diving in the Red Sea, he has always been fascinated by the fluid motion of their tentacles and couldn’t resist the challenge of attempting to capture that movement in bronze. The mottled verdigris patterns in the patination are created by the evaporation of acid as it touches the hot surface of the metal and begins to react, and is intended to represent the dappled light breaking through the surface of the water.
Artist biography Stephen is a sculptor and painter who brings the wild to life through his bronze sculptures. He was awarded DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year in 2019 and has ongoing collaborations with conservation charities.
Stephen spends large portions of time working close to nature and this inspires his labour-intensive and time-consuming lost wax method of bronze sculpting. Exhibiting globally, Stephen has presented his work in the UK, Middle East, USA, and Channel Islands.
50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
