This collection showcases ceramic stools inspired by African stool-making traditions that blur the boundaries between sculpture and furniture design. Made with three different clays and a broad range of techniques, this collection is a portal to Bisila’s inner world, artistic evolution, and heritage.
Artist biography Bisila is a ceramic artist, researcher, and writer challenging Western views on art and craft, questioning what we understand as productive and worthy in capitalist societies. Her work reflects upon the idea of home and oneness pulling from personal experiences in different pottery communities. As a Spanish Equatoguinean storyteller, her practice extends from material investigations into clay’s history, to sculptures that connect to her roots and her shared past with predecessors.
With a background in translation and International Relations, Bisila is a feminist activist who leads the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre, co-directs SHEROES COLLECTIVE, and supports Women in Tri UK as a Trustee.
50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
