ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Wild bees and pollinating insects are disappearing due to urbanisation and farming practices. Trophies of learning and culture to the Victorians, insects are still undervalued today for their true worth in Earth’s ecosystems. This artwork, displayed like a specimen box, at first glance may look empty, but symbolises how precious and important they are, and reminds us not to allow insects that are often overlooked and ‘invisible’ to actually become nothing more than a memory.

Jane Veveris Callan is a painter, printmaker and mixed media artist. Her artwork represents and celebrates her love of nature and respect for the natural world.
