ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Curlews walk along the shoreline, their long, curved beaks and steady strides clearly defining their character. This painting focuses on their distinctive form and quiet presence in a simple coastal setting.

“Where Curlews Remain” is inspired by Rachel’s many trips to Elmley and her appreciation for them and their vulnerability, especially following the loss of the slender-billed curlew. It also reflects the conservation work there, where vulnerable eggs are raised through head-starting to improve survival rates in lowland England.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rachel’s work is inspired by the countryside and her experiences of birdwatching and exploring nature. She specialises in painting birds, capturing their character, movement, and connection to the landscape. Using sketches and photographs gathered outdoors, she develops watercolour paintings that reflect her observations and experiences. Through a limited palette and expressive brushwork, she aims to convey the beauty, energy, and atmosphere of the natural world, creating work that celebrates the ever-changing rhythms and moments found in nature.
