“The Last Frost” captures a fleeting moment, the quiet transition from winter to spring. I was drawn to the contrast between the red squirrel’s thick winter coat and the melting frost on the branch, a reminder of nature’s constant shift. This time of year has always fascinated me, with the crisp air still holding onto winter’s touch while the first signs of warmth begin to emerge. In this piece, I wanted to reflect that balance, the lingering cold against the promise of new life. The squirrel, alert and poised, seems to sense the shift in the air, ready to embrace the thawing world around it.
This piece is about transition, resilience, and the quiet beauty found in those in-between moments.
