ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Tempest” is inspired by the feeling of being caught in wild weather. Acrylic paint has been layered, thrown and allowed to run before being worked back into the surface to build depth and texture. The sweeping marks and washes suggest driving rain, dark skies and the changing landscape beneath. Sophie enjoys balancing the unpredictability of the paint with more considered marks, creating a sense of movement, atmosphere and the raw energy found in nature.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Sophie Histon is a qualified architect who runs her own practice in Surrey and has always painted alongside her professional career. Inspired by wildlife and nature, she creates expressive acrylic paintings on paper and canvas. Her distinctive technique involves throwing and pouring paint, allowing it to run freely across the surface. This spontaneous process creates movement, texture, and dynamic energy, capturing the spirit and character of her subjects with freshness, vitality, and emotion in every artwork.
