Sumatran Tiger Resting

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
These drawings were made in response to seeing a Sumatran tiger at London Zoo, and aim to communicate the immediacy of the experience and the feeling of awe on being so close to the tiger. The medium of ink and brush lends itself to capturing movement and character and is a very expressive means to convey the close presence of a living creature. Tragically, it is estimated that there are only around 400 Sumatran tigers now left in the wild.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Suzanne Cochrane is a self taught painter specialising in portraits and animal subjects. Her degree studies in history of art have informed her work and continue to give her direction and inspiration. Drawing and observation from nature are also central to her work, and a source of endless fascination.

Suzanne has participated in the annual exhibitions of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the New English Art Club, as well as exhibiting independently and with other groups in London.
