Rituals of Love

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Rituals of Love” is an ode to a scene witnessed in the remote Karoo. The blue crane is the South African national bird and listed as vulnerable. On this cloudy afternoon a large flock had gathered on the open grassland nestled in the rocky hills to dance and leap with spread wings as part of their elegant and highly ritualised courtship behaviour. This display is often the start of a lifelong paired bond.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Henriette van Eeden is a South African artist renowned for her expressive wildlife and bird artworks created in coloured pencil, pastel, and gouache. Inspired by the rich biodiversity of her surroundings, she captures the character and beauty of nature with meticulous detail and warmth. Henriette is also a passionate art educator, presenting workshops across South Africa and encouraging artists of all skill levels to develop their creative confidence and technical skills through drawing and painting.
