In East Asian culture, red-crowned cranes are revered as symbols of longevity and immortality, yet they are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Among the largest crane species, they are depicted here in a half life-size sculpture inspired by their graceful bonding dance.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Clare Bigger is a figurative sculptor who captures the spontaneity of movement in her work, using stainless steel to create contemporary, fluid forms and to bring a lightness and grace to her sculptures. She exhibits internationally, producing both private and public commissions featuring nature and the human form.

The daughter of a tropical entomologist, Clare spent much of her childhood in Africa and the South Pacific, experiences that deepened her appreciation of, and curiosity about the natural world.
