ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting features a Lear’s macaw, an endangered species affected by habitat loss and the illegal pet trade in Brazil. Constructed through thousands of individual marks, the work captures the complexity of the bird’s plumage and encourages closer looking. Careful consideration of colour and detail highlights the macaw’s distinctive blues and yellow eye ring, while the dark background echoes the tones found beneath its wings and tail feathers, enhancing the bird’s form.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ruby Addison is a Somerset-based fine artist specialising in oil paint. Influenced by her studies in traditional printmaking, particularly etching and linocut, her paintings are built through thousands of deliberate marks that echo these processes. Driven by colour, her work captures the distinctive palettes of her subjects. Inspired by the natural world, she highlights often-overlooked details and draws attention to species at risk of extinction.
