Often overlooked, hippos live a fascinating life between water and land. For much of the day they remain submerged, barely visible beyond a pair of ears, nostrils, or the occasional yawn and brawl, before emerging to reveal their complex family dynamics. They have been a steady and captivating presence throughout the artist’s travels in Zambia and Kenya. “In It Together” celebrates that sense of family, connection, and quiet strength through loose, expressive watercolour.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tom Shepherd is a UK-based watercolour artist and tutor known for his expressive, light-filled paintings of wildlife and the natural world. His work is collected internationally and is characterised by bold brushwork, vibrant colour and a spontaneous approach. When his two earliest loves, wildlife and art, come together, that’s when everything starts to flow. Through watercolour, Tom aims to capture not just the appearance of his subjects, but their character, energy and spirit.
