ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Jonathan painted great white sharks from life underwater in a cage off the coast of South Africa using oil crayons on plastic board; the most surreal wildlife painting opportunity imaginable. It was a real lesson in looking—something you can’t get from photos; exciting, a little nerve racking but incredibly inspiring!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jonathan Truss is a wildlife painter of 30 years and a featured artist on P&O and Cunard Cruises 2011-17.

Previously a musician, actor and cabaret artiste (as an impersonator) and 10 years as a professional TV walk-on artist, Jonathan has lead art safaris since 2004 to Africa, India, Canada, Madagascar, Galapagos, South Georgia and the Falklands. In 2019 he filmed “A Brush with Nature” with Virginia McKenna, painting Kenya’s largest big tusker.

Jonathan won Wildlife Artist of the Year Abstract World category in 2025 and was twice winner of the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year Frozen Planet category.
