ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Formosan landlocked salmon, known as Taiwan’s ‘national treasure fish’, was once on the brink of extinction. Therefore, it has been designated as a protected conservation species in Taiwan. This work presents a school of salmon swimming together through the repeated layering of fish forms, expressing the concepts of endless continuity and eternal nurturing. It symbolises the hope that the salmon will continue to expand their population in the natural environment and ultimately overcome the threat of extinction.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chen Hsueh Yen is a Taiwanese ink artist whose practice centres on animal subjects. Shaped by an upbringing closely connected to animal husbandry, he has developed a deep sensitivity to questions of life and ecology. Through depictions of Taiwan’s native species, his work fosters dialogue on wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability. Using art as a vehicle for ecological communication, he seeks to cultivate public awareness of the challenges and crises confronting biodiversity.
