ABOUT THE ARTWORK Greg encountered this eastern screech owl sheltered from the winter wind, perched motionless in a neighbour’s dormant grapevine. Refusing to leave the sun’s warmth, the natural mimicry of his plumage kept him well camouflaged. His quiet resilience inspired Greg to draw him and his intricate, bark-like patterns. Rendered at actual size, in various grades of graphite, this piece explores the subtle beauty of urban wildlife and the critical importance of preserving the small green corridors they call home.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Toronto-based artist Greg Scoble produces graphite drawings that honour biodiversity and support wildlife conservation. Blending his background in fine arts and animation, he applies a deep understanding of anatomy, movement, and light to bring depth and realism to each subject. Scoble works exclusively from his own photography, captured during visits to accredited conservation sanctuaries and through chance encounters with native species. The resulting graphite studies invite viewers to contemplate our shared responsibility to protect vulnerable wildlife and its habitats.
