As Only a Cat Can

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece of work was created using standard graphite pencils. No grids, graphs, tracings, white pencils, or inks were used; the only white visible in the image is the paper itself. Four photographs were referenced before guide marks were placed on the paper and a rough outline drawn. From there, the drawing develops entirely by eye, guided by an instinct for the final image, with refinements made as the work progresses. The original drawing took 904 hours to complete.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
David Freeman produces fine art wildlife drawings using graphite sticks and pencils. His love for wildlife developed through countless childhood visits to zoos and safari parks with his dad, where he photographed animals and later created drawings from those images. Cats are his favourite subject, as their beauty, form, and character really appeal to his creative eye.
