ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The southern yellow-billed hornbill is a wonderfully distinctive bird that spends much of its time foraging on the ground in search of insects and other invertebrates. With its oversized yellow bill, this charismatic species has earned the affectionate nickname “the flying banana”.

Handcrafted in terracotta and finished with underglaze and oxide.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
James Ort is a UK-based wildlife artist and sculptor whose sculptures capture the movement, character, and beauty of the natural world. After a career in conservation, he took over the Phoenix Studio in Towersey, Oxfordshire, where he creates and teaches. Passionate about inspiring others, James delivers workshops internationally for adults and children. His work also supports conservation, including collaborations with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and a 2024 group exhibition at the Knepp Rewilding Project.
