Part of the “Ghosts from the Sea” series, “Curly Fin” celebrates the beauty and individuality of marine life. Delicately sculpted in porcelain, the fish are animated by flowing, curled fins that suggest movement and vitality. Presented within an antique Japanese lacquered wooden bowl, the work brings together natural materials, traditional craftsmanship, and contemporary concerns for the oceans, inviting viewers to look more closely at the remarkable creatures that inhabit our seas.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ikuko Iwamoto is a Japanese ceramic artist based in London. Inspired by the wildlife and landscapes of her coastal upbringing in Wakayama, Japan, she creates porcelain sculptures exploring the relationship between humans and the natural world. Recent works focus on marine ecosystems, overfishing, and environmental change, transforming vulnerable species into poetic ceramic forms. Through her practice, she seeks to foster a deeper connection with nature and encourage reflection on our responsibility towards the living world.
