This piece speaks to the viewer on a subconscious level through symbolism and archetypes, inviting an instinctive and personal response. Familiar yet mysterious, it resists fixed interpretation and allows space for a quiet dialogue through visual language.
Artist biography Dominique’s work draws on deep influences from symbolism, nature, and the unspoken language of animals. Her painting practice is shaped by a background in music, drawing from the simplicity of blues music, the raw honesty of punk music, and the poetry of folk music. The power of traditional tattoos, a deep connection to spirituality and duality, have helped her form an instinctual visual language.
For eight years Dominique worked and resided in America, living in cities like New York, New Orleans, LA and Nashville. She learnt and lived amongst kin, musicians and artists before returning home to Cape Town.
South African Dominique was profoundly influenced by her mother who was a traditional healer in the Eastern Cape and deepened her spiritual understanding of nature, the power of symbolism, and archetype. Speaking to the soul, her work reverberates an old world feel in an uncomplicated yet deep way.
