Roaming Elephant Art in Zambia

Children in Zambia were treated to an art lesson with a difference when Matthew Shapira – aka ‘Roaming Elephant Art’ – dropped in to their school. The artist painted a huge colourful elephant mural on the school wall, to the delight of his young audience in Lusaka.

Matt is a visual artist and film-maker on a global mission to raise awareness and funds for elephant sanctuaries and other organisations seeking to help these beautiful, loving beings.

He’s visiting schools in Zambia to help engage pupils and raise awareness of the work of Game Rangers International (GRI) to protect elephants in the Kafue National Park. DSWF funds GRI’s Elephant Orphanage Project there, which rescues and rehabilitates innocent victims of wildlife crime.

Matt supports DSWF’s work and displayed a range of his colourful and distinctive elephant images at this year’s Wildlife Artist of the Year exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.

‘Roaming Elephant’ has become a worldwide charitable project and elephant sanctuaries on five continents are now receiving direct financial support from sales of Matt’s artwork and related gift items.
