Snow leopards slip silently and unnoticed across their diminishing range, but now, the ‘ghost of the mountain’ is in danger of disappearing altogether.
Hunted for their fur, skin, and parts, snow leopards are victims of illicit poaching and the illegal wildlife trade. And when forced to prey on livestock, as more natural sources are encroached upon, they also suffer retaliatory killings from human-wildlife conflict. Snow leopards are also threatened by habitat loss through climate change and human expansion. Already, they face losing 30% of its range and habitat in the Himalayas alone.

Our adoption animal toys are made by the ladies of the Little Ndaba group in Zambia. They are ethically sourced 100% African cotton and are crocheted by over 100 women from remote villages across the country.

Dagina is DSWF’s snow leopard ‘super mum’. She resides at high altitudes, in the mountains of Tost Tosonbumba Nature Reserve, a sanctuary established by DSWF, our conservation partners, and the Mongolian government. Not only is Tost Tosonbumba now one of the world’s largest continuous protected snow leopard habitats, it has enabled Dagina to become one of the most well-studied snow leopards ever.
Dagina has been tracked by our conservation partners, the Snow Leopard Trust (SLT), since her birth in 2009. Since then, she has brought four new generations of this threatened species into the world – having had her most recent litter at the age of ten. So, now you know why we call her super mum!
