About the piece:
Clare is a self-taught wildlife artist specialising in pastels. She has always been interested in the ways that different animals communicate with each other. ‘Wolf by Moonlight’ captures this communication, depicting a wolf howling at night. The background has been kept black so Clare could capture a bit of warm breath against the cold air, also making the wolf the focus. Pastel pencils allowed her to build up the layers of the fur, using greys, blues and browns to add depth.
