About the piece:
Darren Rees has been painting wildlife for nearly 40 years. His work has attracted many awards and honours, most recently an artist in residency in Antarctica organised by the Royal Navy and the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute. Darren depicts a story with ‘Swimming with the Big Blue’, in which he describes a moment when he was diving, seeing a passing whale down in the inky darkness below him. The whale is moving effortlessly and gathers the remaining light, making it the most pulsating turquoise.
