About the piece:
Tamara’s artwork combines a passion for animals and an appreciation for the beauty of detail: the intricacies only seen when looking closely, the marvellous way that the sum of all the small things amounts to and shapes the whole. Scratch upon scratch, layer upon layer give rise to her highly realistic depictions. She aims to capture a moment in time as well as the beauty of the creatures sharing the world with us – from iconic species to lesser known or even disliked ones. She invites you to come nearer and take a closer look. ‘Scrutiny’ depicts Guira cuckoos, which are native to South America. These birds live together in small groups, and feed on invertebrates and small vertebrates. Being scrutinized by these five individuals, one feels rather fortunate for being too large to be a potential menu item.
