About the piece:
Arthur Werren portrays various principles in his artwork. There is the awareness and conservation of mostly African wildlife. Another is using wildlife to convey a broader message that often transcends into human behaviour, and finally is to create contemporary artwork. His portrayal of African wildlife is shown in ‘Scramble’, which depicts vultures in their continual quest to search for food and carrion, deomonstating how one takes off after spotting a potential kill and the rest ‘scramble’ to follow. The ‘scramble’ reflected in this painting reflects a parallel of our own behaviour, in which we follow others in pursuit of some goal or price. Vultures are not often depicted in artwork, often giving way to the more ‘regal and glamorous’ of the animal kingdom, yet Arthur Werren sees them as vital to the overall ecology.
