Running Towards Extinction
Cole Stirling
Category Winner
About the piece:
Cole was born and raised in Zimbabwe and therefore has always had a love for nature and the African bush, with art being how he expresses this. His pieces always aim to bring attention to the many issues facing our natural world. Working mainly in charcoal, Cole loves the freedom that this mark making medium affords, as well as the timeless feel that working in black and white gives his pieces. ‘Running Towards Extinction’ explores the fragility of our natural world. Cole focuses on tigers as his subject, being an iconic species that are on the brink of extinction. He aims to produce a dynamic yet thought provoking piece, creating a triptych of the big cat running in profile, and disappearing with each frame into the background.
