On the Precipice

On the Precipice
Jenny Strathern
About The Piece:
Jenny has found an opportunity later in life to pursue and experiment with her love of art and drawing. Born and educated in England she moved to South Africa 30 years ago when she began a love affair with the country and its wildlife. She has moved steadily north via Swaziland and Zambia and is currently living in Uganda. Of her piece Jenny says “As the pangolin sits ‘On the Precipice’ of extinction, I have drawn this one, precariously high, looking down into an empty void. Is he perhaps looking into a world where they longer exist? From the vantage point of his apparently safe place where he belongs, he nonetheless appears at the same time curious, fearful and vulnerable. Here in Uganda, where we live, pangolins are seriously endangered, frequently and increasingly poached, then trafficked for their scales. We need to act urgently and now if we are to preserve these innocent, endearing, characterful creatures.”
