Val photographed this fox from a flat in London and although at first she thought it was lovely to get a glimpse of this beautiful animal in such an urban setting, the excitement was soon replaced with sadness. Val explains: “The fox in the photo, who is no stranger to the busy street, is, like many others, evidently confused and seemed aimless watching cars fly by.” Val goes on to say ” I felt a certain connection to the fox, in the sense of not belonging. I have far more sympathy with the animal, I can’t imagine being inundated with blinding lights and the roar of city life when it’s evolved to belong in the quiet moonlit countryside… Much like ourselves.”
Valentine has been doing portrait commissions in oil after briefly studying art in Florence, but is now much more inspired by landscapes, wildlife and figurative painting. Valentine works caring for around 200 animals which doesn’t offer much time off for painting!
